     One day, the farmer thought: "Why should I feed the cat when she is of no use! She drinks a bowl of milk

three times a day. In a week, that's a bucket, in a month a tub, and in a year a large barrel."

     He immediately calculated everything into money. The sum he reached took his breath away!

     He called the cat at once:

     "Kitty! Where are you?"

     The cat ran over, thinking the farmer had prepared milk for her.

     Without mercy, he told her she had to leave the house.

     She begged him desperately: "Master, don't drive me away! I have faithfully served you for many years.

     But he would not be softened. His heart was like stone.

     The farmer was pleased to say:

     Then one day a mouse appeared. Then a second and a third. Even some rats came crawling from

somewhere.

     Soon the granary with the grain was completely empty. Not a single grain was left.

     When the farmer found out, he felt remorse too late.
